The Burlington Discover Jazz Festival announces the premiere of a new season of its television series Discover Jazz on Vermont PBS with the first episode airing Saturday, October 1 at 9pm. The series features eight performances from some of the best established and emerging artists on the international jazz scene, recorded live in FlynnSpace at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts. The second season of series was recorded in June during the 2016 festival and features: Marcus Roberts Trio, Charenée Wade, Jimmy Greene Quartet, Jenny Scheinman and Myra Melford Duo, Jacob Garchik: Ye Olde, Ingrid Jensen Quintet featuring Christine Jensen, Tyshawn Sorey: Koan Quartet, and The Rodriguez Brothers.

The inaugural series premiered in 2015 and returns this year with a new crop of remarkable artists. The series speaks directly to Vermont PBS’s involvement and participation in the various arts, culture, and entertainment offerings in Vermont. Demonstrating the mission of the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival to broaden awareness and appreciation of jazz through quality live performances and contribute to the national jazz dialogue, the project expands access to the uniquely American art form that is jazz.  The series will be available to PBS viewers via broadcast and streaming online, as an opportunity to experience some of the best musicians on the jazz scene, performing live in concert.

Vermont PBS has recorded eight performances during the 2016 festival, including profiles and interviews with the artists, to be aired in a multi-part television series. The Discover Jazz series continues the live music experience online with extended cuts and bonus material.
