Just as we were gearing up for our favorite time of the year, putting the final touches on another Burlington Discover Jazz Festival lineup, COVID-19 showed up and our best laid plans went out the window. As the old saw goes, “Life is a lot like jazz. It’s best when you improvise.” So, from June 4-14, we are going virtual and bringing the music directly to you with the Burlington ReDiscover Jazz Festival—11 days of jazz in partnership with Vermont PBS, Vermont Public Radio, and Burlington area restaurants and businesses.
- Ray Vega, host of VPR’s Friday Night Jazz, plays six nights of music drawn from performers that have appeared at Burlington Discover Jazz Festival over the past 37 years.
- Meet-the-artist interviews hosted by Artistic Director Steve MacQueen, streaming live on the Flynn website and the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival Facebook page.
- Daily food and drink specials from local restaurants and businesses that have supported the festival over the years. Purchase beer or wine from participating restaurants and receive a free Burlington ReDiscover Jazz Festival souvenir cup, thanks to our friends at Zero Gravity and Farrell Distributing.
- Limited edition festival collectible poster, designed by Alyse Schulte and hand-printed by New Duds. All proceeds go to support the nonprofit festival and future live music. Order here
As John Coltrane said, “you’ve got to look back at the old things and see them in a new light.” If we can’t be together, we can still share in the spirit of the festival and celebrate the healing power of jazz.
In the meantime, consider becoming a Friend of Discover Jazz to support the festival getting back to the work it was created to do.
