Dan Ryan is a drummer and educator based in Burlington, Vermont. Born in the hills of the Northeast Kingdom area of Vermont, Ryan grew up listening to jazz, rock and roll, folk, motown, and whatever else his parents put on the stereo throughout his childhood. He has been drumming since age 5, and began formal training at age 9. His education has brought him in contact with some of the state’s best music educators at Barnet Elementary School, Lyndon Institute, and the University of Vermont. Ryan is also an experienced educator himself, with over 15 years of teaching private lessons under his belt.
Ryan has been living in Burlington and playing in Burlington-based bands since 2004 (including Madaila, Kat Wright, Craig Mitchell and Motor City, Strength in Numbers, and more). Among those groups is his own jazz project, the Dan Ryan Express. Ryan is known for being musically versatile, but his strongest genre is jazz. With the Express, Ryan and a rotating personnel interpret many different styles within the jazz realm, ranging from more traditional bop tunes to more explorative contemporary numbers. Ryan and his bandmates aim to stay true to the jazz tradition while simultaneously pushing the envelope with their musical interaction. Joining Ryan for this occasion will be Parker Shper (keys),
