“Grammy-winner Cory Henry and his band, The Funk Apostles, serve up a sermon of soulful bliss.” —Denver Post
“It’s hard to overstate the infectious energy and thrill of a live performance by the New Orleans band The Soul Rebels.” —NPR
Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles is the newest project of Brooklyn native Cory Henry, a member of two-time Grammy Award-winning jazz-R&B group Snarky Puppy. On his instrument of choice—the Hammond B-3 organ—Henry features his dynamic and improvisational performances of music ranging from old gospel to Stevie Wonder. He is winning a host of new fans and has been featured on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The Funk Apostles are five of the world’s best musicians, hand-picked by Henry to match his solo wizardry and charismatic nature.
Described by the Village Voice as “the missing link between Public Enemy and Louis Armstrong,”The Soul Rebels mix funk, second line, pop, hip-hop, go-go, rock, and even reggae into their signature take on street-wise jazz and brass music. The eight-piece, New Orleans-based brass band has gone from a local N.O. favorite to sharing the stage around the world with Metallica, Green Day, Maceo Parker, Slick Rick, Suzanne Vega, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Arcade Fire, Alabama Shakes, Seal, Dr. John and many more. The band has become an international ambassador of the New Orleans sound, and their electric live shows create a funky, party-like atmosphere that gets everybody groovin’.
Proving that soul music can be exponentially greater than the sum of its parts, The Nth Power is on a mission to share the light. The group formed during an impromptu late-night jam at Jazz Fest 2012 in New Orleans and has since launched relentlessly funky soul driving toward a higher power. The trio hails from diverse musical backgrounds, with powerhouse drummer Nikki Glaspie touring with Beyonce for five years before joining Ivan Neville’s New Orleans funk outfit, Dumpstaphunk. Bassist Nate Edgar of Groovechild and John Browns Body compliments singer and guitarist Nick Cassarino, who came from the Jennifer Hartswick Band.
