Announcement regarding the 2020 Burlington Discover Jazz Festival

A Message from the Managing Director Chelsea Lafayette

Dear Neighbors,

Well, here we are: participants in the greatest act of global solidarity in human history. Perhaps you have been expecting this news, or with everything going on in the world, the summer festival season is the last thing on your mind.

For the first time in 37 years, the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival will not happen as planned this coming June.

The Festival was founded in 1984 with the goals of ensuring everyone in our community can access arts and culture; providing paying gigs for local musicians; stimulating the local economy; and,of course, celebrating jazz. These fundamental elements of our Festival are more important than ever as our city, state, country, and world recover from this unprecedented crisis.

Together we will reach the other side. There will be a time when we can safely gather to experience the healing power of the shared experience of live music. When that time comes, the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival will be there.

The unwavering support of our presenting sponsor, New England Federal Credit Union, ensures the Festival can quickly get back to doing what we do best, whether that is later this summer, fall, or perhaps the winter jazz fest that has been on our minds for years.

There is a tough road ahead. The Festival is supported by over 80 different community partners, many of whom have been severely impacted by this global pandemic. Local businesses, retail stores, and restaurants have been supporting this festival since it began. We look forward to the opportunity to return the favor by bringing people back to downtown Burlington. To do that, we will need all the help we can get. If you are able to pitch in, please DONATE or BECOME A FRIEND OF DISCOVER JAZZ today.

If you are a ticket holder, we can return your tickets and process a refund. But, if you can, we ask that you consider donating the tickets back to the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival as a tax-deductible contribution, or transferring the funds to a Flynn gift certificate, which can be used for future events. Please use the online form, as soon as possible, to let us know how you would like us to proceed—whether a refund, donation, gift certificate, or a combination of these options. For now, we wish you and your loved ones health and strength in these challenging times. We can’t wait to see you again.

Be safe,
Chelsea Lafayette
